You can earn up to $5000.00 in wage subsidy per student!
March 27, 2026 Update:
The Summer 2026 Program is launching on Monday, March 30 at 1:00 PM ET / 10:00 AM PT!
The Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) has announced some significant changes which come into effect Summer 2026:
We no longer offer an increased subsidy for under-represented groups
- All subsidies will be capped at 50% of the student total gross earnings, up to $5,000.
- Career Ready is still dedicated to supporting students from under-represented groups, allocating at least 50% of our placements to these demographics.
The Net New Rule no longer applies to micro and small businesses (with fewer than 100 employees)
- Only medium and large businesses (100+ employees) are required to demonstrate incremental student opportunities.
Students must have already started in their academic program before beginning their placement
- Secondary graduates working in summer before post-secondary begins are ineligible.
All applications submitted within the first 7 days of registration launch (until April 5) will have the same opportunity to be reviewed. However, review priority will be given to student placements in tech immersive roles that are within high-growth sectors (see the list of those sectors here). Once we have reached our funding limit, all remaining submitted applications will be put on a waitlist.
March 18, 2026 Update:
All previously approved Winter 2026 applications will automatically extend to include the month of April 2026.
Students are an ideal source of people-power for short-term projects. Employing work term students is an effective recruiting tool, and supports the development of skills in the next generation of Canada’s workforce.
An eligible employer must be willing to employ a student in a tech-immersive role. Tech and non-tech focused organizations are encouraged to apply.
